Monday 23 March 6.15 am - High winds

Strong north-westerly wind bordering on gale force. {8-9 on the Beaufort scale. I've never worked out how to measure wind speeds in kilometres and don't plan to learn. The Beaufort is precise enough and allows for minor wind variations.}

White water surfers getting out there

Rossnowlagh 1.30pm 21 March. Swell has arrived but wind is in the north, flattening the waves a bit. Wind is gusty but not severe. Good white water surf and white water kids have arrived, setting out warily at the south end of the beach.

White water kids - you can work for white water surfing certification now - check Irish Surf Association website at www.isasurf.ie. In fact you can earn your certificates all the way to big Peak waves. It doesn't have to be all about competition any more.
